ME201: Simulation and Modeling of Manufacturing processes

UC Berkeley, Prof. T. K. Zohdi

Many modern manufacturing methods involve a series of steps to process a material in order to obtain characteristics that the raw material does not possess. This course provides the student with modern modeling and simulation methods to analyze and optimize classical and cutting edge manufacturing processes in a scientific, careful and self-consistent manner. The following topics are discussed:

  • An overview of manufacturing processes,

  • Mechanical behavior of materials,

  • Thermo-mechanical behavior of materials,

  • Modeling and simulation of material forming,

  • Processing of powdered materials: modeling and simulation of sintering and compaction,

  • Additive processing of materials: particulate-doped composite material,

  • Optimization of materials and processing,
